Does melatonin cause sleep paralysis?

Melatonin is something I've started taking a few times a week because my sleep cycle is quite disturbed due to my work schedule. A couple of times recently, I've woken up feeling completely paralyzed and unable to move for a few moments, which was very scary. I'm wondering if melatonin could be causing these sleep paralysis episodes.

Actually yaar, some people do report very vivid dreams or weird sleep heavy-ness if they take a high dose of melatonin. But proper sleep paralysis is different and usually happens due to extreme exhaustion or irregular sleep timing. Try reducing the dose if you feel uncomfortable.

I had a similar doubt, so when I went to Kokilaben Hospital for my checkup, I asked the specialist directly. He told me that melatonin doesn't cause sleep paralysis, but a sudden shift in your sleep stages might make you feel a bit groggy. Please ask your doctor clearly to get correct guidance.

With thyroid, my sleep was always messed up and I used to feel very heavy in the mornings. Melatonin didn't give me sleep paralysis, but getting my thyroid levels balanced with regular doctor visits actually fixed my overall sleep quality. Get your blood work done first.

Bro, sleep paralysis is super scary, I've had it once during semester exams! But I don't think melatonin is the reason, it usually happens when you are sleep-deprived and sleeping on your back. Melatonin just helps you fall asleep faster.

My health app shows my REM sleep phase gets slightly longer when I take melatonin, which can sometimes lead to very intense or lucid dreams. That might feel like sleep paralysis if you wake up suddenly. Try monitoring your sleep cycles with a fitness band to see the pattern.

If you are experiencing sleep paralysis often, getting a sleep study done is the best step, though it can be a bit costly in private clinics. You can plan for it by checking government hospital rates first. Don't waste money buying different melatonin brands thinking it will solve the problem.

There's no need to take heavy supplements that cause weird side effects. Just try washing your feet with cold water and drinking a glass of warm milk before bed. Simple old remedies are much safer and won't give you any scary dreams or sleep issues.
