Does melatonin actually help you sleep?

For the past few months, I've been having a lot of trouble falling asleep, even when I'm tired. My colleague suggested I try melatonin, saying it helps him. I'm wondering if it really works or if it's just a placebo.

Actually yaar, it worked for me initially when my sleep cycle was totally messed up. But it doesn't put you to sleep like a strong sedative, it just tells your brain that it's bedtime. If you keep scrolling your phone after taking it, then it's useless only.

It helps a bit, but honestly, making your room pitch dark and keeping the mobile in another room works much better. Melatonin is good for temporary relief, like after a long journey, but daily habits are what actually solve sleeplessness.

With PCOS, my sleep cycles are always a bit erratic, and melatonin did help me fall asleep faster occasionally. However, since it is a hormone, I am always very careful and only take it after asking my doctor. Don't use it continuously without advice.

Listen, melatonin is not a magic pill. It works fine if you have jet lag or shift duties, but if you are stressed out 24/7, no tablet will help you. Fix your routine, stop drinking tea late evening, and things will get better automatically.

As someone working US shifts, melatonin has been a lifesaver for resetting my sleep window. It helps you catch that initial sleep wave, but it won't help if you wake up in the middle of the night. Use it occasionally, not as a permanent fix.

Humare ghar mein toh jab neend nahi aati, garam doodh peete hain. Par mere bete ne melatonin tablet laya tha jab uski neend kharab hui thi. Usne bataya ki isse neend toh aati hai, par aadat nahi banani chahiye.

At 53, my sleep has its own mood swings. Melatonin helped me for a couple of days, but then my body realized what I was doing and went back to staying awake at 3 AM. It’s okay for a quick reset, but don't expect miracles!
