Does medicare cover diabetic shoes?

My doctor recommended special diabetic shoes to prevent foot complications, but they are quite expensive. I wanted to know if my health insurance policy might cover the cost of these specialized shoes. It would be a big help.

Yes, Medicare Part B covers therapeutic shoes if you have severe diabetic foot disease. You need a podiatrist to certify the need and fit them, so don't waste time going to regular shoe stores. Book an appointment with a registered specialist directly.

My doctor mentioned diabetic shoes because of my neuropathy, but I am so worried about the claim getting rejected. Is the approval process very complicated? Has anyone else here successfully got their therapeutic shoes covered by Medicare recently?

I was reading about diabetic foot care and found out that Medicare actually covers one pair of therapeutic custom-molded shoes per year. It's specifically for people with documented foot issues, which is super helpful to know for elder family members.

Beta, Medicare does cover these special shoes, and you must wear them to protect your feet. Alongside, make sure to wash your feet daily in lukewarm water and apply a little mustard oil on the soles, but avoid the areas between toes. Keep your feet dry and safe.

My uncle got his diabetic shoes through Medicare last year! You just need your primary doctor and a podiatrist to sign off on the prescription. Once the paperwork is done, the specialized medical supplier handles the rest quite smoothly.
