Does matcha cause kidney stones?

I love drinking matcha, but my doctor recently mentioned I should be careful about oxalates due to a family history of kidney stones. Does matcha cause kidney stones if consumed regularly? I want to make sure I'm not overdoing it.

Matcha has oxalates, ho na, so excessive intake can be risky if you are prone to stones. But ek-do cup pine se kuch nahi hota. Just drink lots of water throughout the day!

No need to panic! Just don't drink it like water. Having one cup of matcha daily is totally fine as long as you keep yourself hydrated throughout the day.

Matcha does contain oxalates, which can cause kidney stones if consumed in very high amounts. Moderation is key.

Haan, matcha mein oxalates toh hote hain na, toh thoda dhyan rakhna chahiye agar pehle kabhi stone ki problem hui ho. Par normal use mein koi dikkat nahi aati, bas paani khoob piyo!

It can cause stones only if you drink it excessively because of the oxalate content. Stick to 1 cup a day.

While matcha has oxalates, staying physically active and drinking plenty of water helps flush out toxins and prevents stone formation. If your doctor allows, keep a good workout routine and drink matcha in moderation.

I used to drink green tea and matcha very often, but after my cousin got kidney stones, I became more careful. Now, I just make sure to drink at least 3 liters of water daily and haven't faced any issues. That's just my personal routine, though.

I just bought my first pack of matcha and got a bit worried reading this. Does it really pose a risk even if we drink it only once in a while? I'd appreciate any guidance on how to consume it safely.

Matcha does contain moderate amounts of oxalates, which can contribute to calcium oxalate stones if consumed in massive quantities. If you are on a high-oxalate vegetarian diet already, it's best to limit it to one cup a day and balance it with calcium-rich foods.

Let's be direct: yes, matcha is high in oxalates. If you have a history of calcium-oxalate kidney stones, you should definitely avoid it or talk to your urologist before consuming it.
