Does magnesium help thyroid?

I have been diagnosed with an underactive thyroid and am always looking for ways to support my thyroid health naturally. I've heard conflicting information about magnesium. Does magnesium really help in improving thyroid function?

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism last year and was struggling with severe fatigue and muscle aches. My doctor added a magnesium supplement along with my regular thyroxine tablet, and my muscle pain has significantly improved. Just make sure to keep a gap of at least 4 hours between the two medicines.

Yes, magnesium is very important for converting T4 to T3 thyroid hormones. But remember, it is a supportive supplement, not a replacement for your daily thyroid pill. Also, never take them together in the morning because magnesium can block the absorption of your thyroid medication.

Don't spend money on fancy magnesium supplements right away. Get your regular TSH, T3, and T4 blood tests done first to see where your levels actually stand. If you plan your laboratory tests through packages, it is much cheaper, and then your doctor can prescribe exactly what you need.

I totally panicked when my TSH came back high and started searching for every vitamin online, including magnesium. Honestly, once I met my doctor and started the proper low-dose thyroid medication, everything became normal very quickly. Don't worry, it is a very common issue and easily manageable.

My sister told me to drink herbal decoctions for my thyroid, but I prefer to trust my endocrinologist's advice. When I asked him, he explained that magnesium supports overall thyroid function and metabolism. I take it now as prescribed, and I feel much more energetic.

For thyroid health, eating a few soaked almonds and pumpkin seeds daily is a great natural way to get magnesium and selenium. However, if you are experiencing sudden rapid weight loss, severe hair fall, or a swelling in your neck, please skip the home remedies and consult a doctor immediately.

Please get your thyroid antibodies and hormone levels properly checked by a specialist doctor before starting any self-treatment. Magnesium is general nutrition, but taking random amounts can affect your heart rate or digestion if your thyroid levels are fluctuating. Safety should always come first.
