Does magnesium help muscle pain?

I often experience muscle pain after workouts, especially in my legs and shoulders. My trainer suggested taking magnesium supplements. Does magnesium actually help in relieving muscle pain and spasms?

Yes, magnesium is actually great for muscle recovery and cramps because it helps relax the muscle fibers. If you have soreness after workouts or long standing hours, a supplement can help, but make sure to drink plenty of water too. If the pain is sharp or doesn't go away in a few days, please get it checked.

Before buying expensive magnesium capsules, try adding more spinach, almonds, and bananas to your daily diet. Also, a warm water bath with standard rock salt works wonders for body tiredness and is very cheap. Try these basic things first for a week.

My gym trainer made me do 100 squats and my legs felt like blocks of wood. I took some magnesium that night and woke up feeling like a human again instead of a robot! It definitely helps with the soreness, just don't take too much or you'll be spending your day in the washroom.

For mild muscle stiffness, drinking coconut water daily is a great natural way to get magnesium and potassium. You can also apply warm mustard oil gently on the sore area. But if you have sudden, severe pain or swelling in your calves, please go to a hospital immediately as it could be something serious.

I get these random calf cramps at night and it always scares me that it might be something serious like a blood clot. I heard magnesium glycinate is the safest type to take, but I am still too scared to buy it without a prescription. Maybe a doctor's visit is best to be 100% sure?

Don't worry too much, muscle soreness is very common if you've recently started working out or travelling. Magnesium does help relax the muscles quite well. Just give your body some rest, eat a good banana, and if the pain is still too intense, go see a doctor instead of pushing through it.
