Does low thyroid make you hungry?

Lately, I've been feeling constantly hungry, much more than usual, and I don't feel satisfied after meals. My mother has thyroid problems, so I was wondering if low thyroid can cause an increase in appetite?

I was constantly feeling hungry and craving carbs when my thyroid levels were really low last year. Once my doctor adjusted my thyroxine dose, my appetite went back to normal and the constant cravings stopped. It is definitely a real symptom, so get your TSH checked.

I totally get it, feeling constantly hungry and guilty about eating can be so exhausting. When your thyroid is low, your body is low on energy, so it signals you to eat more to get quick energy. Please don't blame yourself, it is just your hormones playing tricks.

If you are feeling extra hungry due to thyroid issues, keep healthy snacks like roasted makhana, chana, or cucumbers ready at home instead of eating biscuits or chips. It is a very cheap and simple way to manage cravings without gaining extra weight.

While hypothyroidism usually slows your metabolism and should technically reduce appetite, many people experience intense sugar cravings because their body lacks energy. Try to focus on high-protein, fiber-rich foods to stay full and maintain your daily workouts while consulting your doctor.

I thought I was just a hardcore foodie who loved midnight snacking, but turns out my low thyroid was making me crave carbs like crazy! It's hard to resist hot samosas when your body is screaming for energy, but getting your thyroid medication sorted really helps control the beast.
