Does low thyroid make you cold?

I'm always feeling cold, even when others around me are comfortable and it's not winter. My doctor recently suggested checking my thyroid levels. Is it true that low thyroid function can make a person feel cold all the time?

I totally get it, feeling shivering cold when everyone else is perfectly fine in the room is so frustrating. Low thyroid levels slow down your metabolism, which lowers your body temperature. Please take care and wear warm layers until your medicine dose is set.

Yes, cold intolerance is one of the classic signs of hypothyroidism because your body's energy-burning process slows down. Make sure you are taking your thyroid medicine first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, and do get your TSH levels re-tested every few months.

Since thyroid hormones regulate your body's thermostat, a drop in thyroid function will naturally make you feel cold. If this symptom is getting worse, it usually means your current medication dose needs a small adjustment. Just speak to your doctor and get a quick T3, T4, TSH test done.

When your metabolism is low due to thyroid issues, the body's internal heat decreases. Along with your regular thyroid medication, practicing Surya Bhedana pranayama and gentle physical movements can help generate natural warmth in your body. Take care of yourself.
