Does local anesthetic put you to sleep?

My doctor mentioned local anesthetic for a small procedure on my hand. I'm a little anxious, so I was hoping it might make me drowsy. Will I actually be fully awake during the whole thing or does it make you sleepy?

Nahi babu, isse neend nahi aati hai. Humare chote bete ka haath ka plaster thik karne ke liye diya tha, woh pure time humse baat kar raha tha. Bas dard nahi hota hai bilkul bhi, aap ghabrao mat.

It only numbs the specific area, so you will remain awake. Still, always discuss your complete medical history with the surgeon beforehand to ensure they use the safest option for you. It's better to be 100% sure before any procedure.

Nahi re, local se neend nahi aati, ho na? It only affects that one small area where they inject. Baaki hum bilkul hosh mein hote hain, tension lene ki baat hi nahi hai.

No, local anesthesia is designed to numb a specific nerve pathway while keeping you conscious. If you feel very anxious about being awake, you should definitely talk to your doctor. They can sometimes give a mild sedative along with it if required.

I was literally crying before my minor surgery thinking they would accidentally put me to sleep or I would feel everything. But trust me, it was so normal! You are awake, you hear everything, and you feel absolutely no pain. It is totally fine.
