Does local anesthesia put you to sleep?

I have a dental procedure coming up next week and the dentist said they'd use local anesthesia. My friend told me I would be awake, but I'm a bit nervous about feeling anything or still being conscious. Just wondering if it makes you sleepy at all?

Honestly, I was so scared before my minor dental surgery thinking I would pass out or feel everything. It actually just numbs the area completely but you stay fully awake. Did anyone else also feel super anxious hearing the doctor talk while doing the procedure?

Bro no way, local means only that part goes numb. I had a stitch on my leg last semester and was literally scrolling Instagram the whole time. Don't worry at all, you won't fall asleep.

I completely understand if you are feeling nervous about it, as being awake while doctors work on you is emotionally tough. But physically, it really just blocks the pain in that spot while you stay awake. It's totally okay to feel overwhelmed, just let the doc know if you need a moment.

No, it doesn't put you to sleep. Had a cyst removed from my hand last month and I was watching the whole thing. You feel some pressure but absolutely zero pain, it's very chill.

Stay positive, there is nothing to fear. It only quietens the physical sensation in that specific part, your mind remains fully aware and calm. Take deep breaths and keep your thoughts peaceful during the process.

Not at all, you stay wide awake! I got local anesthesia for a small tooth thing and was actually planning what to eat afterwards the entire time. Sadly, you can't eat hot samosas immediately until the numbness wears off, which takes a few hours.
