Does listerine help tooth pain?

I woke up with a really bad toothache tonight. My mother suggested rinsing with Listerine to help. Does Listerine actually help tooth pain even a little bit?

Bro, Listerine might numb your mouth for exactly two minutes, but it won't negotiate with a cavity. It is like putting a band-aid on a broken leg! Go see a dentist before you end up needing a root canal.

I had a terrible wisdom tooth ache last month and tried Listerine, but the burning just made it feel worse. Honestly, doing a warm salt water rinse is much gentler and soothing for the pain until you can get a dental appointment.

Actually yaar, it doesn't help with deep tooth pain at all. It might temporarily clean the area if some food is stuck, but the pain will come back. Better to take a painkiller prescribed by your dentist instead of gargling all day.

Please do not ignore tooth pain by just using mouthwash. I kept rinsing with Listerine thinking it was just a minor cavity, but the infection spread to my jawbone and I had to get an emergency extraction. Go to a clinic immediately.

I have sensitive teeth and gums due to hormonal issues and sometimes get mild aches. Listerine only helps with general hygiene, but actual tooth pain usually means there is nerve inflammation. It's safer to have a dentist look at it.
