Does lemon cleanse the liver?

My mother always tells me to have warm lemon water in the morning, saying it cleanses the liver. I'm not sure how true this is. Does lemon truly cleanse the liver, or is it more of a traditional belief?

I completely understand why you are looking this up, liver health can feel so stressful when you read scary things online. But please relax, lemon water alone cannot 'cleanse' your liver. Our liver is a self-cleaning organ and doesn't need aggressive detoxes.

I had mild fatty liver last year and drank lemon water daily hoping it would cure me, but my ultrasound showed no change. What actually worked was cutting down on fried food, alcohol, and losing 5 kgs. Don't rely on quick lemon fixes.

I have tried every detox water under the sun, from lemon-honey to ginger-turmeric. Honestly, they just keep you hydrated and give you some vitamin C. They don't do any magical liver cleansing, so don't overconsume lemon thinking it will fix a heavy diet.

Dealing with PCOS made me research a lot about metabolic health and liver detoxes. Lemon water is a nice refreshing drink, but it doesn't cleanse your system. It's better to avoid these miracle claims and focus on a balanced, low-GI diet.

When I asked my hepatologist at KMC hospital about these lemon detoxes, he laughed and said it's just a myth. He clearly told me that only a proper lifestyle and medical treatment can help if there is a liver issue. Please consult a qualified specialist.

As a diabetic, I have to be very careful with what I drink. I take lemon water without honey for hydration, but it has no impact on clearing fatty liver. Reducing carbs and keeping blood sugar in control is the only real way to protect your liver.
