Does laughing gas put you to sleep?

A minor surgery scheduled soon has me offered laughing gas to help with anxiety. I'm curious to know what it actually does. Will laughing gas make me fall completely asleep during the procedure, or does it just make you feel relaxed?

No, laughing gas doesn't put you to sleep like general anesthesia does. It just makes you feel very relaxed and a bit lightheaded. Since I manage my thyroid issues with regular blood checkups, I always make sure to discuss all my medications with my doctor beforehand to be completely safe.

Let's be clear: laughing gas or nitrous oxide is just a mild sedative. You remain fully awake, conscious, and able to respond to your dentist's questions. It just takes the edge off your anxiety and pain.

Honestly, I wish it put me to sleep so I could catch up on my lost hours! But unfortunately, you are awake the whole time. You just feel a little happy and floaty while they mess with your teeth.

It is not meant to put you to sleep, but in my case, I felt extremely dizzy and nauseous during the procedure. Everyone's reaction is different, so please consult your doctor clearly beforehand and make sure they monitor your oxygen levels properly.

I completely understand why you might worry about losing consciousness, as the thought of being put to sleep terrified me too. Rest assured, laughing gas only calms you down and keeps you fully awake. You are in complete control the entire time.

Don't believe random internet articles claiming laughing gas is used to knock you out. It is a conscious sedation method. Always verify the safety protocols with a certified anesthesiologist or dentist before your procedure.

It doesn't put you to sleep; you stay active and responsive. Because it exits your system so quickly once you breathe fresh oxygen, it won't mess with your energy levels or gym schedule for the day. You can easily get back to your routine.

No, it only relaxes you, but you must make sure the clinic has trained staff to administer it. If you have any underlying heart or lung conditions, get a green light from your general physician before using any kind of sedation.
