Does lack of sleep affect eyesight?

My eyes feel so tired by evening due to long hours in front of a computer. On top of that, I often get only 5-6 hours of sleep because of deadlines. I've noticed my vision seems a bit blurry sometimes; is it possible that not sleeping enough is affecting my eyesight?

I was getting blurry vision last week after working late nights and I was so scared I had some major eye disease! But when I finally slept for 9 hours on Sunday, my eyes felt completely fine. Please sleep on time, our eyes need rest to heal from screen strain.

Actually, yes. My health app has a screen-time tracker, and I noticed that low sleep plus high screen usage causes severe dry eyes, which makes vision feel temporarily blurry. It doesn't change your prescription permanently, but it causes heavy strain and dry eye syndrome.

My ophthalmologist explained that sleep is when our eyes replenish their lubrication. Lack of sleep leads to dry, strained eyes and even eye spasms or twitching. He strictly advised me to use lubricating drops and get at least 7 hours of shut-eye.

In our younger days we would read under dim lights and stay up, only to wake up with burning eyes the next day. Lack of sleep won't make you blind, but it will definitely weaken your eye muscles and cause headaches. Take care of your health, sleep is a blessing.
