Does ketosis cause kidney stones?

Being in ketosis for some time as part of my diet plan, I've recently heard that it can sometimes lead to kidney stones. Is there a real risk of developing kidney stones from ketosis?

Look, if you eat tons of meat and skip water on a keto diet, you are practically inviting kidney stones. Ketosis makes your urine more acidic which is risky. Drink at least 3-4 liters of water daily and don't blindly follow internet diets without a doctor's nod.

Yes, it definitely increases the risk of kidney stones because of high protein intake and dehydration. Keep yourself hydrated.

My nephrologist explained this to me clearly when I wanted to start keto. High protein and low carb intake can increase calcium and uric acid in your urine while lowering citrate levels. This combination creates a perfect storm for uric acid kidney stones, so you must get regular blood and urine tests done.

Haan na, keto diet sound direct aur easy lagta hai weight loss ke liye, par kidney par bahot load padta hai. I have heard so many stories of people getting severe side pain. Please crash diets mat karo, proper balanced food hi sabse safe hai.

Hello, I am new to this group and was planning to start a keto diet next week. I didn't know it could affect the kidneys like this. Is there any way to prevent these stones while being in ketosis, like drinking lemon water?

I was actually researching this yesterday because I wanted to lose 10 kgs fast. From what I read, the lack of hydration and high purine foods in ketosis can easily trigger stones. I am quite scared now, might just stick to normal calorie counting instead.

I tried one of these high-fat low-carb diets a few years back and ended up with terrible back pain which turned out to be a small stone. Our traditional Indian diet with roti, dal, and sabzi is time-tested for a reason. Don't push your body into extreme states at this age.
