Does johannesburg have malaria?

I'm planning a trip to South Africa for a safari next month. Johannesburg is on our itinerary, and my wife is concerned about malaria there. Can anyone tell me if Johannesburg has malaria?

Johannesburg itself is generally malaria-free, but if you are traveling to nearby game reserves or lower altitudes, the risk is real. When I traveled without precautions once, I got very sick. Always consult a travel doctor before your trip for prophylaxis.

No, Johannesburg is a low-risk, malaria-free area. You don't need prevention pills if you are only staying in the city.

The city of Johannesburg itself is considered malaria-free because of its high altitude. However, if you are planning to visit places like Kruger National Park, please visit a travel clinic or ask your doctor clearly about taking preventive medication.

I just returned from South Africa last month! Johannesburg has no malaria risk at all, so I didn't take any pills there. But I did use mosquito spray in the evenings just to avoid regular bites.

Don't worry too much about it. Johannesburg is safe from malaria due to its cold winters and high altitude. Just pack normal mosquito repellent and you will be absolutely fine.

My travel health app shows Johannesburg is a safe, malaria-free zone. If you are venturing out of the city to safari areas, then you might need meds. Keep an eye on local health advisories on your phone.

Haha, no need to pack heavy malaria meds for Joburg! The mosquitoes there are not that dangerous, though they might still annoy you. Just enjoy your trip and carry standard repellent!
