Does iodine help thyroid?

My thyroid levels have been a bit off lately, and a neighbour suggested that iodine supplements might help. I'm not sure if that's true or if it's safe. Does taking iodine actually help with thyroid problems?

I was thinking of taking iodine supplements for my fatigue, but then I read it can actually worsen thyroid conditions like Hashimoto's. Does anyone else get super confused and anxious about what is safe to take?

Yes, iodine is essential for thyroid function because the thyroid gland uses it to make hormones. However, too much or too little can both cause issues. I use a health tracker to monitor my nutrient intake, but it is best to get a blood test first.

Dealing with thyroid issues and weight fluctuations can be really draining emotionally. It feels like you are doing everything right but nothing works. Please don't self-medicate with iodine, it can complicate things and cause more stress.

My endocrinologist explained that while iodine is crucial, most of us in India get enough of it from iodized salt. He strictly warned me against taking external iodine supplements as excess iodine can trigger hyperthyroidism or thyroiditis.

I totally get it, thyroid issues make you feel so tired and you just want a quick solution. While iodine is important, taking extra can sometimes backfire. Please take care and consult a specialist before starting any new supplement.

In our daily diet, using normal iodized salt in moderation is enough for the thyroid. Do not try any heavy remedies or extra salts without asking your vaidya or doctor first. Eating fresh, simple food is the best way.
