Does incense cause cancer?

We light incense sticks daily for puja at home, but my daughter-in-law recently said it's not good for health. She mentioned it might cause cancer. Is this true, does incense really cause cancer?

I actually didn't know this could be a risk, we burn agarbatti at home every single day. Is it the chemical ones that are bad, or even the natural sandal ones? I would love to know if we should switch to something safer.

Burning incense releases a lot of smoke which isn't great for your lungs. To counteract indoor air pollution, I always keep my windows open and make sure to get my daily outdoor cardio or brisk walking in the fresh morning air to keep my lungs healthy.

Honestly, the cheap incense sticks have a lot of synthetic chemicals that produce toxic smoke when burned. It's probably not going to give you cancer instantly, but inhaling that daily in a closed room is definitely bad for your breathing.

At my age, even walking past a smoky street makes me cough, so burning three agarbattis in a small room is out of the question! It might not cause cancer directly, but my throat definitely acts like it is the end of the world. Just open the windows and let the air circulate!

Since we have to be very careful about endocrine disruptors with PCOS, I try to avoid synthetic fragrances like heavy incense or room fresheners. Some studies do show that heavy incense smoke contains harmful particulate matter. It might be better to switch to natural dhoop or soy candles instead.

I ignored a persistent cough for months thinking it was just dust allergy from puja room incense, and it turned into chronic bronchitis. Please don't ignore any respiratory symptoms if you burn incense regularly. Get a chest checkup done by a doctor to be safe.

Incense smoke has carbon monoxide and other toxins, which can reduce your stamina during heavy workouts. I prefer using basic essential oil diffusers instead of burning sticks. Combining clean indoor air with regular exercise is the best way to keep your body strong.
