Does ibuprofen cause liver problems?
I have been advised by a relative to avoid ibuprofen due to potential liver issues. I take it for my arthritis pain. Does ibuprofen cause liver problems, or is this just a myth?

Ibuprofen is actually processed mostly by your kidneys, unlike paracetamol which goes through the liver. But if you take it on an empty stomach, it can cause severe acidity and stomach issues. Don't take it regularly without a doc prescribing it to you.
Honestly, taking too many painkillers is never good for the body. I always try to use haldi doodh or warm compresses first for body pain. But if your liver is already weak or you are having severe pain, please go see a doctor instead of self-medicating.
Oh god, even I was worrying about this last week when my doctor gave me some tablets. Has anyone else felt slight nausea or stomach ache after taking it? I got so scared of liver damage that I stopped taking it altogether.
I was actually reading up on this yesterday because my dad takes it for his knee pain. From what I found, occasional use is mostly fine for healthy adults, but long term use is what causes issues. Still better to ask a proper specialist than guessing online.
If you are taking these medicines regularly, it is better to get a simple Liver Function Test (LFT) done first. It only costs around 400 to 600 rupees in most local labs and will save you from expensive treatments later. Prevention is much cheaper than cure, believe me.

My family physician explained this to me very clearly last month. He said ibuprofen is an NSAID, and while kidneys take the main load, long-term high doses can stress the liver too. He strictly told me never to take it for more than 3 days without a checkup.
