Does hydronephrosis cause pain?

My daughter was recently diagnosed with hydronephrosis, and she's been complaining about some flank pain. The doctor explained the condition, but I forgot to ask about the pain. Does hydronephrosis typically cause pain in the affected area?

Yes, it absolutely can cause severe pain, especially in the side or back. I had a blockage that caused kidney swelling and the pain was unbearable before I finally got treated. Please do not ignore this or try to manage it at home, you need to see a urologist immediately to prevent kidney damage.

It definitely causes discomfort and pain because of the fluid buildup. While you are getting it diagnosed by a physician, try to avoid very salty foods and spinach which might aggravate kidney stones if that is the underlying cause. Stick to a simple, easily digestible diet and get professional advice.

My cousin went through this last year and she used to get this sudden, sharp pain on one side of her lower back. It really helped when she got an ultrasound done and her doctor started the treatment early. Just drink plenty of water and please get an appointment booked soon to ease your mind.

In our family, we have seen that kidney swelling often causes a nagging pain in the lower back. While drinking barley water (jau ka paani) can help soothe the urinary tract slightly, you must not rely only on home remedies for this. It is a serious internal issue, so please consult a proper doctor first.

Yes, it can cause quite a bit of dull ache in your back or side area! Don't worry too much, but definitely get a doctor to check it out so they can find the reason behind the swelling. Staying positive and getting the right treatment on time will make it all fine. 😊
