Does honey help you sleep?

I often struggle to fall asleep at night, and I'm tired of feeling groggy every morning. My mother-in-law used to say a spoonful of honey before bed helps. Does honey actually have properties that can help you sleep better?

Yes, a warm cup of milk with a spoon of honey really works like magic for me! It feels so cozy and helps me wind down after a long day of work. Give it a try tonight! 😊

Honey can cause a very mild rise in insulin, which helps tryptophan enter the brain and promote sleep. It is a good, safe bedtime habit for most people. Just make sure you brush your teeth afterward to avoid cavities from the sugar.

I used to drink honey water thinking it would calm my night restlessness, but my high blood pressure was the real culprit behind my bad sleep. Once I corrected my diet, did daily salt reduction, and got my BP checked regularly, my sleep improved naturally.

For me, insomnia was actually a symptom of my thyroid fluctuating, and honey didn't make any difference there. If your sleep issues are constant, please get a thyroid profile test done. Regular follow-ups with your doctor are key to fixing the root cause.

When I asked my physician about this, she explained that honey slightly raises insulin, allowing tryptophan to cross into the brain and convert to melatonin. It is a scientifically backed mild sedative effect. However, she advised not to exceed one teaspoon to avoid excess calories before bed.

Hey, don't stress too much about sleepless nights. Try a warm cup of water or milk with just half a teaspoon of honey tonight, keep your phone away, and let your body relax. If it still doesn't improve after a week, we can look into seeing a specialist.

I worry that eating honey right before sleeping might spike my blood sugar or cause acid reflux during the night. If you have a sensitive stomach like me, maybe try chamomile tea instead. But if honey suits you, it is a very safe option to try!
