Does high liver enzymes cause itching?

I recently had blood tests that showed high liver enzymes. Around the same time, I started experiencing constant, inexplicable itching all over my body. Could high liver enzymes be causing this itching?

Yes, during my jaundice days years ago, I had severe itching on my palms and soles. The doctors told me it happens when bile salts build up in the skin because of liver stress. Keep your skin hydrated and consult your doctor soon.

I can only share what happened to me last year. When my SGPT and SGOT levels were high, I had this annoying under-the-skin itch that wouldn't go away. It only stopped once my liver reports improved with treatment.

I had a liver issue that I ignored, thinking it was just a regular skin allergy, and it became quite serious. Itching can sometimes be a sign of liver congestion. Please do not delay and get an LFT blood test done immediately.

High liver enzymes can definitely be linked to pruritus, which is the medical term for itching. It usually happens when bile flow is sluggish. Don't take any self-prescribed allergy meds, go to a doctor to check the root cause.
