Does high fever cause rapid heart rate?

My heart felt like it was pounding really fast when I had a high fever a few days ago. Is it common for high fever to cause a rapid heart rate, or should I be concerned?

In all my years, I have always noticed that when the body heats up, the pulse naturally races. The heart has to pump faster to cool the body down, so don't get scared if you feel your heart thumping. Keep the patient in a well-ventilated room and give them cool water to drink.

Yes, it absolutely does! When I had viral fever last month, my heart was racing like I had run a marathon, which really freaked me out. But my doctor told me that for every degree rise in temperature, your heart rate goes up by about 10 beats. Just rest up and let the medicine work.

I deal with occasional high fever due to sinus infections, and my heart rate always spikes to around 110-120 bpm. The key is to stay completely hydrated with electrolytes because dehydration makes the heart work even harder. Once the fever drops, the heart rate will return to normal.

Oh my, a racing heart during fever always makes me panic and think of heart failure! It is so stressful to feel your chest pounding. Please check if there is any chest pain or difficulty breathing; if those are present, don't wait even a minute and go to the nearest hospital.

At my age, my heart usually races only when I see my credit card bill, but high fever does the same trick! It is just your body working overtime to fight the bugs. Put on a fan, lie down, and don't try to be a hero; give your heart a break.

My 10-year-old daughter's chest was beating so fast during her high flu fever that we got terrified. Our pediatrician explained it is a natural mechanism to fight the infection. Keep doing cold sponging and keep the doctor informed if the heart rate doesn't settle after the fever goes down.

I totally get it, feeling your heart race when you are already weak and shivering from a fever is incredibly scary. It is a very uncomfortable sensation, but please try to relax because anxiety will only make your heart beat faster. Drink some water and take deep, slow breaths.
