Does high fever cause hallucinations?

My little son had a very high fever last night, and he started saying he was seeing things that weren't there. Does a high fever sometimes cause hallucinations in children?

A very high fever can definitely cause confusion and hallucinations as the body's temperature regulation fails. Just like with high blood pressure, extreme physical stress needs immediate monitoring. Please check their temperature and seek medical help if it doesn't come down.

Oh man, when I had that crazy 104-degree fever last year, I was literally seeing giant plates of hot chole bhature floating on the ceiling! High fever definitely messes with your brain. Keep the patient hydrated with light coconut water and simple moong dal khichdi.

Yes, it is called febrile delirium and it is terrifying for a parent to watch. My son started talking to the walls when his fever touched 103. Put cold wet strips on their forehead immediately and take them to a doctor right away to bring the temperature down safely.

Hallucinations during a high fever are a known medical phenomenon, often indicating that the core body temperature has reached critical levels. While it can be temporary, it is a serious sign that requires professional intervention. Consulting a physician immediately is the safest course of action.

In our village days, when children got very hot with fever, they would sometimes scream or see things that weren't there. We used to sponge them with cool water and give them light buttermilk. Don't panic, once the fever drops, their mind will become completely normal again.

I didn't know high fever could do that, it sounds really scary. My cousin has a warm forehead today and is sleeping a lot. Do we need to take her to the clinic if she starts talking in her sleep, or is that normal?

When my sister had high fever with delirium, we admitted her to Sahyadri Hospital. The doctors clearly told us that hallucinations are a critical symptom of brain overheating. Please don't try home remedies; ask your doctor clearly what is causing this high temperature.

I completely panicked when my daughter started pointing at empty corners and crying during a high fever. I thought it was some neurological damage. But the ER doctor assured me it is quite normal during spikes and her mind cleared up as soon as the paracetamol kicked in.

Haan, bilkul hota hai, dimaag par jab garmi chadh jati hai toh log ajeeb baatein karne lagte hain. Isme darna nahi chahiye par bilkul dheel bhi mat do, na? Turant doctor ke paas jao aur fever kam karne ki medicine dilwao.

I was just reading about this on a medical blog because my friend's younger brother experienced it. It is fascinating yet terrifying how a high temperature can affect our neural pathways. Definitely not something to take lightly!

Yes, it is a very common reaction to extremely high body heat. Please keep the room quiet, hold their hand to comfort them, and make sure a doctor is called immediately. It will be okay.

Seeing my husband hallucinate during dengue was one of the most emotionally exhausting experiences of my life; I was crying and thinking he had lost his mind. If you are going through this, please know that it is just the fever speaking and it will pass once they get medical care.

My family physician explained that high body temperatures can temporarily alter cellular function in the brain, leading to delirium or hallucinations. This is particularly common in children and the elderly. He emphasized that any fever causing such cognitive changes requires urgent medical attention.

Bro, during my typhoid phase, I was literally talking to my hostel warden who wasn't even in the room. High fever totally scrambles your brain wires for a bit. Just keep a cold cloth on the forehead and get them to a doctor ASAP.
