Does heat help tooth pain?

I have a terrible toothache right now, and it's throbbing constantly. A friend suggested applying a warm compress to my cheek. Does heat actually help to alleviate tooth pain?

Tooth pain is honestly the absolute worst, it makes you want to cry and you can't even sleep. When I had a bad infection, dry heat from the outside felt slightly comforting for the jaw ache, but the actual tooth pain didn't stop. I really feel your pain, please see a dentist soon.

Haan yaar, toothache mein heat apply karne se thoda relaxation toh lagta hai cheek pe. Par dhyan rakhna, andar agar infection ya pus hai toh heat se pain badh bhi sakta hai na. Garm paani mein namak daal ke rinse karo, woh safe hai.

I have a mild toothache since yesterday and was thinking of using a warm water bag. But reading these comments makes me a bit scared. Should I use a cold pack instead, or does that also have risks?

I tried putting a warm cloth on my cheek when my wisdom tooth was hurting. Honestly, it made the pain worse because there was swelling inside. Cold pack worked way better for me to numb the area until I got to the dentist.

I would advise against using heat on a toothache without consulting a doctor. If there is an infection under the gums, heat can cause it to spread faster. It is always safest to get a proper dental X-ray done to find the real issue.

Based on my experience with dental issues, warm salt water rinses inside the mouth help a lot to clean the area and soothe gums. But applying external heat pads on your cheek is risky if there is an active abscess. Stick to lukewarm rinses and see a dentist.

A gentle warm compress on the jawline can soothe the surrounding tense muscles, but it will not cure the underlying tooth decay. Practicing deep Shitali pranayama can sometimes help calm the nervous system when the pain is agitating you. Please do visit a dental clinic.

Actually, if there is an infection, heat can increase the blood flow and make the throbbing worse, yaar. I had this happen during my root canal days. Better to avoid direct heat on the face and just call your dentist.
