Please don't just rely on hot water bags like I did. I kept heating my back for weeks thinking it was simple muscle pain until I couldn't even stand up properly. Get an MRI or see an orthopaedic doctor before the nerve gets permanently compressed.
Heat actually works by increasing blood flow to the area, which helps heal muscle spasms. You can use a heat pad for 15 minutes, but if there is any swelling or sharp shooting pain, switch to ice instead. Also, avoid heavy lifting while you have this pain.
Haan, hot water bottle se sekne se thoda chain toh milta hai. Par dhyan rakhna, heating pad lagane se dard bilkul khatam nahi hoga, bas temporary aaram milega. Doctor se consult karke exercises seekh lo na, wahi best hai.
I always feel we should be very careful with nerve-related issues. Heat might make the inflammation worse if the nerve is severely pinched. It is always safest to get it checked by a specialist first before trying any home remedies.

Honestly, when my sciatica flares up, a warm bath is the only thing that helps me relax. I usually do some very gentle stretching after using the heat when the muscles are warm. Just don't push yourself if it starts hurting.
