Does heat help kidney stones?

My brother was just diagnosed with kidney stones, and we're looking into all possible remedies. Besides medication, can heat help with kidney stones, maybe to pass them or reduce discomfort?

Heat can help soothe the back muscles during pain, but it won't treat the stone itself. I hope you feel better soon. Please make sure to visit a doctor for proper guidance.

Using a hot water bag on your back can definitely bring some cozy comfort when your side is aching! ☺️ Just keep in mind it won't actually dissolve the stone, so drinking plenty of water and seeing a doctor is super important!

While a heating pad is a cheap way to get some temporary back pain relief at home, you still need a proper ultrasound to find the stone size. A basic scan costs around 800 to 1200 rupees, which is a necessary expense to plan your treatment. Don't delay seeing a doctor to avoid bigger bills later.

I just passed a 5mm stone last month and a hot shower was the only thing that gave me brief relief during spasms. But honestly, the real work was done by the medications my urologist prescribed to dilate the ureter. Please get a proper prescription.

Local heat therapy is excellent for relaxing the muscular tension caused by kidney stone colic. It is a good first-aid measure, but you must follow up with a medical professional. Make sure you get an ultrasound to check the stone's exact location and size.

Drinking warm coconut water and applying a warm compress to the lower back can ease the mild discomfort of a stone. However, if you start vomiting or feel unbearable sharp pain, home tips won't save you. Please rush to a doctor immediately.

I get so worried when I feel any back ache, thinking my kidney stones are acting up again and might block something. If you are also feeling anxious about the pain, please don't just rely on a heating pad. It's much better to get a quick doctor's advice to put your mind at ease.
