Does heat help kidney stone pain?

I'm currently dealing with excruciating kidney stone pain. A relative suggested a hot bath might offer some relief. Does heat actually help in easing kidney stone pain?

A warm heating pad on your lower back can definitely help relax the muscles and give some temporary relief! 🌸 But please remember, it won't melt the stone. Make sure to drink lots of water and consult your doctor for proper treatment!

Bro, kidney stone pain is next level, a hot shower barely makes a dent when the intense spasm hits. Don't waste time trying to cure it with a heating pad. Just go to the ER or see a doctor to get proper pain relief and scans.

Having dealt with kidney stones twice, I can say that local heat helps ease the severe muscle spasms in your back. However, this is only for comfort. You absolutely need to get an ultrasound and see a urologist to ensure the stone isn't blocking your urine flow.

I tried to manage my back pain with a heating pad for three days, ignoring that it was a kidney stone, and ended up with a severe kidney infection. Please do not make the same mistake. Any severe flank or back pain needs a proper doctor's evaluation right away.

When I had a kidney stone, the specialists at the hospital explained that heat only helps relax the surrounding back muscles but won't stop the actual colic pain. They gave me specific medications to help pass the stone. It is best to consult your doctor clearly and get an ultrasound done.

My roommate had this last semester and he was rolling on the floor even with a hot water bag on his back. Honestly, heat only helps a tiny bit with the back stiffness. We had to rush him to the clinic, so definitely see a doc.

Drinking warm barley water and using a hot compress on your side can help soothe the mild spasms. But kidney stone pain can suddenly become very severe and cause vomiting. If the pain is intense, please don't wait at home and visit a doctor immediately.
