Does heart rate increase with heart attack?

My neighbour recently had a heart attack and his family was saying his pulse was racing. Does a heart attack actually cause your heart rate to go up like that? I'm trying to understand the symptoms better for emergencies.

Beta, during such heavy times the body does go into panic and the pulse can rise or even become very slow and irregular. In our times, we would give some warm water to drink and make the person sit in open air, but honestly, this is not a small matter of home remedies. If anyone is experiencing chest discomfort with a fast heart rate, please do not waste time on gharelu nuskhe and call for an ambulance immediately.

Please do not search for these things on the internet when someone might be having an emergency. Heart rate can go up, down, or stay normal during an attack, but only a proper ECG at a hospital can tell you what is actually happening. Stop reading random forums and contact a real doctor or emergency services right now if there is a doubt.

Yes, it absolutely can increase because of panic and strain. If this is happening right now, please rush to the nearest emergency room immediately.

Usually, the pulse can run very fast because the body is under extreme stress, though sometimes it behaves weirdly. While I always prefer ginger tea or simple herbs for gastric chest pain, a real heart attack cannot be cured at home. Please go straight to a hospital if you or anyone is feeling tight in the chest with a rapid heartbeat.

I had a massive blockage back in 2022 and my heart rate was actually jumping like crazy before I collapsed. Don't make the mistake of waiting to see if it settles down on its own. Any chest discomfort combined with a weirdly fast pulse needs immediate emergency medical attention, so please get to a hospital.

Yes, the heart rate can shoot up due to sudden panic and distress during a cardiac event. While regular slow breathing and pranayama keep our cardiovascular system healthy daily, they cannot stop an active emergency. If you are feeling sudden breathlessness or a racing pulse along with chest pressure, please visit a clinic immediately.
