Does head and shoulders give you dandruff?

I've started using Head & Shoulders recently and now I'm actually seeing flakes, which I never had before. Could this shampoo be causing dandruff instead of preventing it? It's really confusing.

Actually, it doesn't cause fungal dandruff, which is caused by Malassezia. However, because it contains strong active ingredients, it can severely dry out a sensitive scalp if used too often. This dryness leads to fine white skin flakes that people easily mistake for actual dandruff.

My daughter started using it daily and her scalp became extremely dry and started peeling like paper. We realized the shampoo was just too harsh for her young scalp. We stopped using it, started applying a little olive oil, and her scalp returned to normal within two weeks.

I used it daily thinking it would keep my hair clean, but my head started flaking like crazy. My doctor told me to stop using anti-dandruff shampoos every day because they strip the scalp. I switched to using it just twice a week and my hair is totally fine now.

Haha, that would be the ultimate betrayal, right? An anti-dandruff shampoo giving you dandruff! It doesn't actually give you dandruff, but if you don't wash it out completely, the leftover residue can dry up and flake. Just rinse your hair thoroughly like you're under a waterfall!

True, it won't cause dandruff but the dryness can make your scalp flake. Try using a mild moisturizing conditioner on your hair ends to balance things out.
