Does having a fever burn calories?

Recently had a fever for a couple of days, and I noticed I lost a little weight, maybe a kilo. I was curious if having a fever actually makes your body burn more calories than usual. Is that how it works physiologically?

Yes, your body burns more energy fighting infection, but please don't look at fever as a way to lose weight. If you have recurring fevers, it's better to spend 500 rupees on a complete blood count test rather than guessing. Health is the best investment.

It does burn calories because your heart rate increases during a fever, which puts extra stress on your cardiovascular system. As someone with high BP, I have to be very careful during infections. Always monitor your vitals and don't skip your regular checkups.

Oh, absolutely. Whenever I get a high fever, I feel so incredibly weak and lose a couple of kilos instantly because the body is working double-time. But honestly, most of that is just water weight, so make sure you are drinking enough fluids.

Yes, metabolic rate spikes with fever, burning extra calories. But this is stress-induced burn, not healthy weight loss. Don't worry about workouts now; just take sick leave, rest, and focus on recovery so you can return to work faster.

Yes, the body works very hard when we are sick, which uses up our energy. Please rest well and have warm moong dal khichdi to keep your strength up.

I noticed my clothes felt loose after a bad bout of viral fever last month, but it made me worry if something else was wrong. Did anyone else experience sudden weight drop after a fever, or is it just me overthinking?
