Does hashimoto disease cause weight gain?

I was recently diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease, and I've noticed I've gained a significant amount of weight lately without much change in my diet or activity. Is weight gain a common symptom of Hashimoto's disease?

Yes, it is known to slow down metabolism and cause weight gain, but don't start buying random weight loss powders online. You must verify your thyroid levels with a proper blood test and let a qualified doctor prescribe thyroxine. No home remedy can cure an autoimmune thyroid issue.

Hashimoto's is an autoimmune condition that leads to hypothyroidism, which definitely causes stubborn weight gain and water retention. Don't be too hard on yourself if you can't lose weight easily. Once your doctor sets your medicine dosage right, your metabolism will improve.

I totally get it, waking up feeling heavy and bloated despite eating healthy is incredibly frustrating. Hashimoto's makes your thyroid underactive, which directly slows your system down. Please be gentle with your body during this journey.

Yes, weight gain is a classic symptom of Hashimoto's because of the hormonal imbalance. However, sudden weight changes can also be due to other underlying issues. Please get a full thyroid panel and antibodies test done for your own safety.

It absolutely does. Hashimoto's drops your metabolic rate, making it very easy to pile on kilos and very hard to drop them. The only way to manage it is strict medication adherence combined with a gluten-free or anti-inflammatory diet under supervision.

I panicked like crazy when I suddenly gained 8 kgs in two months and was diagnosed with Hashimoto's. But honestly, once my thyroid levels stabilized with the daily morning pill, my weight gradually went back to normal. It is manageable, so don't lose hope.
