Does hand foot and mouth cause vomiting?

My daughter was diagnosed with Hand Foot and Mouth, and along with the usual rash, she's also been vomiting a lot. I'm not sure if vomiting is a common symptom of this particular illness. Is it related to Hand Foot and Mouth?

Yes, it can happen, especially in toddlers because of the painful throat blisters making them gag. My son vomited twice because he just couldn't swallow even water. Give them tiny sips of cold milk or ORS instead of large amounts at once.

I totally get it, seeing them vomit on top of having those painful rashes is absolutely heart-wrenching. The virus can sometimes upset their tiny stomachs. Just hold them close and focus on keeping them hydrated in very small intervals.

Our pediatrician at Max Hospital specifically warned us that vomiting can lead to rapid dehydration during HFMD. If they can't keep any liquids down for more than a few hours, you must ask your doctor clearly about anti-vomiting drops.

Vomiting happens mainly because the stomach lining gets irritated or the throat blisters make swallowing a nightmare. Focus on electrolyte restoration rather than forcing heavy meals. Thin coconut water or diluted apple juice is best during this phase.

I actually had severe nausea and vomited once when I got HFMD last month. The throat pain was so intense that trying to swallow solid food triggered my gag reflex immediately. Stick to cold, bland liquids for a few days.
