Does giardiasis cause fever?
I recently returned from a trip and have been experiencing severe diarrhea and stomach discomfort. My doctor suspects giardiasis. Does giardiasis typically cause fever as well, because I've had a low-grade one?

Actually, fever is not very common with Giardiasis, it's mostly stomach pain and bad diarrhea. But some people do get a low-grade fever if the infection is severe. Keep tracking your temperature!
I got a mild fever when I had Giardiasis and panicked thinking it was typhoid. But my doctor assured me it's just the body's natural reaction to the parasite, and it went away in two days with the right meds.
Usually, Giardia is a non-invasive parasite, so a high fever is rare. If you have a high fever along with blood in your stool, it might be a bacterial infection instead. Get a stool test done to be sure.
A low-grade fever can occasionally happen, but major symptoms are always gastrointestinal. If your fever is crossing 101°F, consult a physician immediately to rule out other infections like amoebiasis or food poisoning.
I just recovered from Giardia last week. I had a mild fever of 99.5°F on the first two days along with extreme bloating. Once I started the prescribed anti-parasitic course, both the fever and stomach issues cleared up.
