Does gatorade help fever?

Down with a high fever today, and feeling quite dehydrated. My mom used to give me electrolyte drinks when I was sick. Can drinking Gatorade actually help someone who has a fever, perhaps by rehydrating or something similar?

I have a high fever right now and my stomach is also feeling very weak. Is it really safe to drink Gatorade, or will the high sugar make my stomach feel even worse? Please let me know if anyone else has tried it during a bad flu.

It can help with hydration because of the electrolytes, but it is not a cure for fever. When you have a fever, your body loses fluids fast, so staying hydrated is key. I usually prefer coconut water, but a sports drink is okay if you have nothing else.

Honestly, regular WHO-approved ORS packets from the chemist are much better for fever-induced dehydration. Gatorade contains too much sugar, which isn't ideal when your body is fighting an infection. Use it only as a backup option if you cannot get ORS.

Well, it will make you feel like a hydrated athlete lying in bed, but it won't fight the virus for you! You still need paracetamol for the fever. Drink it if you like the taste, but don't expect it to replace your doctor's prescription.

Don't stress too much about finding fancy drinks when you are sick. Just focus on resting and drinking plenty of warm water or simple home-made soup. If you have some Gatorade in the fridge, a few sips won't hurt, but just take it easy.

Whenever anyone in my house gets a fever, we consult our family physician before giving them anything other than water and simple food. Some sports drinks can affect people with high BP or diabetes due to sodium and sugar. It is always safest to ask your doctor clearly.
