Does gastroenterologist treat liver?

My recent blood tests showed some abnormalities related to my liver, and my family doctor suggested seeing a specialist. I was told a gastroenterologist deals with digestive organs. Does a gastroenterologist also treat conditions related to the liver, or should I look for a different kind of specialist?

Yes, gastroenterologists treat liver issues because the liver is a major part of your digestive system. Before booking a costly specialist appointment, you can get a basic Liver Function Test (LFT) done at a local diagnostic lab for 500-600 rupees. That way, you have the reports ready when you visit the doctor, saving you another trip.

Yes, they handle liver issues like fatty liver which is super common these days. Along with whatever treatment they give, cutting down on alcohol and junk food while maintaining a regular exercise routine makes a huge difference. Definitely get their go-ahead before starting any heavy fitness regime.

Indeed they do, as the liver is the main organ for processing our food. Alongside their medical treatment, simple breathing exercises like Kapalbhati can help improve blood circulation to your abdominal organs. But please do not ignore your doctor's advice and prescribed medicines for any liver condition.

Yes, they do. For advanced liver conditions, you can also look for a hepatologist, who is a gastroenterologist specializing specifically in liver care.

Haan ji, pet ke doctor hi jigar (liver) ka ilaj karte hain. If you have any swelling in your stomach or face, please go to a good city hospital and show a gastro doctor. Do not go to local quacks for traditional yellow-jaundice threads.

Yes beta, gastroenterologists are the right doctors for liver ailments. While you take their medicine, you must avoid heavy, oily foods to give your liver some rest. Simple, home-cooked food is the best support for your liver recovery.

Absolutely, they deal with liver diseases like fatty liver, hepatitis, and jaundice all the time. If you have symptoms like yellow eyes, dark urine, or severe right-side stomach pain, please book an appointment with a gastro specialist soon. Don't rely on self-proclaimed liver detox syrups.
