Does formula help babies sleep longer?

My 4-month-old baby wakes up every couple of hours at night, and I'm really sleep-deprived. A friend suggested giving formula for the last feed might make her sleep longer. Is there any truth to this idea, or is it just a myth?

I totally get it, the sleep deprivation in those first few months is absolutely exhausting. While formula digests slower than breastmilk and might give you a slightly longer stretch, every baby is different. Hang in there, it gets easier.

Before you switch to formula just for sleep, keep in mind that good quality formula is quite expensive and adds a major monthly expense. Try setting a proper sleep routine first to save on unnecessary formula costs.

With my daughter, we tried giving formula at night thinking she would sleep for 6 hours straight, but she still woke up every 3 hours. It didn't make a huge difference for us, but that was just our personal experience.

We started giving one feed of formula at night for our son. Honestly, it did give us an extra hour or two of sleep because formula is heavier than breastmilk. But you still have to wake up for diaper changes anyway.

Our pediatrician at Cloudnine told us that while formula digests slower, sleep is a developmental milestone. You should consult your pediatrician before introducing formula to make sure it doesn't affect your lactation or baby's digestion.

Look, don't overcomplicate things. Formula might keep the baby full for a bit longer, yes. But don't force it just for your sleep if breastmilk is working fine. Every baby takes their own time to settle into a sleep cycle.

My elder sister was talking about this yesterday! She tried giving formula at night to her baby, but she said the difference was barely 30 minutes. I guess sleep depends more on the baby's mood than just the food.

Yes, formula does take longer to digest, so my daughter slept for about 4 hours instead of 2. But we had to deal with more gas issues after starting formula. Balance it out and see what works best for your little one.

We tried formula but she still woke up. What actually helped us was giving a warm bath before bed and doing a gentle mustard oil massage on her feet. Sometimes comfort works better than just a heavy stomach.

Let's be real, formula is heavier because of the milk solids, so it keeps them full. But it is not a guarantee for a full night's sleep. If your baby is going through a regression, no amount of formula will make them sleep.

I kept stressing about this so much when my baby wasn't sleeping! I was terrified that formula would give her colic or gas, which would make her sleep even worse. If you are anxious, just try a small amount and see how they react.

I went through this with both my kids. Formula does digest slower, which can give you a 4-hour stretch, but it can also cause constipation. My tip is to do a dream feed right before you go to sleep yourself.

Actually yaar, my wife and I tried this but it didn't work wonders like people claim. He still woke up because of gas or teething. Formula takes longer to digest so they might feel full, but don't expect a magic 8-hour sleep.

I have been reading up on this because my cousin is struggling with her baby's sleep. Some articles say formula-fed babies sleep longer because it digests slowly, but others say it is just a myth. I wonder if it actually works.

It is completely normal to look for ways to get some rest, dear. Formula is heavier so it keeps their tummy full longer, but remember that baby sleep is also about comfort and growth spurts. Don't worry, you are doing a great job.
