Does flossing prevent gum disease?

I've been told flossing is good for gum health, but I often forget to do it daily. My gums bleed sometimes when I brush. Does flossing prevent gum disease, or do I need something more?

I was researching why my gums bleed during brushing and found out that not flossing is the main reason. Plaque buildup causes gingivitis, so flossing actually prevents it by cleaning those tight spaces. It is basic dental science.

Yes, it is very helpful. Flossing removes plaque near the gumline which reduces swelling and bleeding. Doing it once a day is good for your gums.

Yes, flossing is the most effective way to prevent gum disease. I actually set a daily habit reminder on my phone to make sure I don't skip it. It drastically reduces plaque and keeps your gums firm.

Just like a clean diet and consistent exercise keep your body fit, flossing is the workout your gums need to stay healthy. It keeps inflammation down, which is crucial because oral health is directly connected to your overall physical health.

Don't ignore bleeding gums by just trying random mouthwashes you see in advertisements. Flossing helps prevent gum disease, but if you already have swollen gums, go and verify the issue with a dentist first.
