Does fatty liver hurts?

I've been feeling a dull ache in my upper right abdomen sometimes, especially after eating. I got diagnosed with fatty liver last month. Is it possible that the fatty liver itself is causing this discomfort or pain?

Sometimes it does feel like a dull, heavy ache on the upper right side of the stomach. I used to get this weird discomfort after heavy meals when my fatty liver was active. It is not a sharp pain, but more like a constant fullness that tells you to eat lighter.

Usually, fatty liver is asymptomatic in its early stages and doesn't cause severe pain. However, some people do experience a mild, dull discomfort in the right upper abdomen due to liver enlargement. If you are experiencing sharp or persistent pain, it is highly recommended to consult a doctor to rule out other gallbladder or gastrointestinal issues.

Please don't try to self-diagnose abdominal pain based on what people say online. While fatty liver can cause mild heaviness, any actual sharp pain needs to be evaluated by a doctor. Get an ultrasound done instead of assuming it's just fatty liver.

I completely panicked when I felt a weird pressure on the right side of my ribs last year, thinking something was seriously wrong. My doctor did an ultrasound and said it was just a mild fatty liver causing some stretching and heaviness. Once I improved my diet, that heavy feeling completely disappeared!

Yes, it can cause a dull, heavy ache on the right side of your upper belly. It is usually just a mild discomfort rather than sharp pain.

My physician explained that the liver itself doesn't have pain receptors, but its outer covering, the Glisson's capsule, can stretch when the liver swells from fat accumulation, causing a dull ache. He advised me that any sudden, intense pain accompanied by nausea or fever is not typical for fatty liver and requires immediate medical attention.
