Does fasting help diabetes?

My blood sugar levels have been a bit high lately, and my doctor mentioned lifestyle changes. I heard from a friend that some people with diabetes find fasting helpful. Can fasting actually help manage diabetes effectively?

Intermittent fasting can definitely help with insulin levels, but please don't go full sadhu mode and survive only on air! If you are on diabetes meds, fasting without a plan can make your sugar drop faster than a roller coaster. Talk to your doc first!

Fasting is great for insulin sensitivity, but only if done scientifically. If you skip meals randomly and then hog on heavy carbs during your eating window, you will ruin your progress. Get a proper diet plan and monitor your levels closely.

Controlled fasting can improve glycemic control and reduce insulin resistance in Type 2 diabetes. However, for patients on insulin or sulfonylureas, it poses a severe risk of hypoglycemia. It is absolutely essential to adjust your medication dosage under your doctor's supervision before starting.

Please be extremely careful. I tried to self-manage my high sugar levels by fasting for long hours without consulting my doctor, and I ended up fainting in the office due to a severe low sugar episode. Get your HbA1c checked and let a professional guide you.
