Does exercise help period pain?

Every month, my period pains are just awful, and I usually just want to lie down. My mom suggested trying some light exercise, but I can't imagine moving when I'm in so much pain. Does exercise actually help relieve period cramps?

In our days, we didn't do heavy exercises during those periods, but light walking and gentle stretching of the back were very helpful. Drinking warm carom seed (ajwain) water along with safe resting is the best way to soothe cramps.

With my backache, even walking feels like a chore during those days! But honestly, a slow 15-minute walk around the society actually helps block out the pain better than just lying on the couch groaning all day.

My period pain used to be unbearable, which turned out to be related to my thyroid issues. Light yoga really helps with circulation, but if your pain is extreme every month, please get your thyroid and pelvic health tested by a gynecologist.

Listen, don't force yourself to do intense workouts if your body is in pain. A very gentle walk or just child's pose (balasana) yoga stretch can relax your pelvic muscles and ease the ache. Keep a hot water bag close and rest well.

I get so worried that any sudden movement or heavy squatting might worsen my cramps or cause heavy bleeding. I usually stick to very slow, cautious stretching. It does relieve the tension, but only if done very gently.
