Does exercise help pass kidney stones?

I'm currently suffering from a small kidney stone, and the doctor said it might pass on its own. I was wondering if doing some light exercises like walking or jumping could actually help speed up the process of passing the stone?

I totally get it, kidney stone pain is absolutely miserable and you just want it out. Gentle walking and bouncing light movements can sometimes help a tiny stone travel down, but please don't push yourself if the pain is too much.

I have a 5mm stone and I am honestly terrified of doing heavy exercises to pass it. Did anyone else feel a sudden sharp pain spike when they tried running or jumping? I want to try but I am scared of making it worse.

I can only speak from my own experience with a 4mm stone last year. My doctor had told me to drink lots of water and do moderate walking, and the stone eventually passed in about a week. I didn't try any heavy workouts.

Simple rule boss: drink gallons of water and do normal daily walking. Don't go doing crazy gym workouts or heavy lifting thinking it will push the stone out faster. That will only cause more pain and muscle strain.

My brother had a tiny kidney stone recently and his doc suggested light rope skipping along with lots of coconut water. It actually helped him pass it in a couple of days. Just don't overdo it if you feel dizzy or in pain.

Staying active with light cardio keeps the body moving and can assist the natural elimination process. However, make sure you are super hydrated, as sweating a lot without refilling fluids will only concentrate your urine and make stones worse.

Please be very careful with this. I tried jogging to pass a stone, but it got blocked in the urinary tract, causing severe infection and a hospital emergency. If the pain is sharp or you have fever, go straight to a doctor.
