Does esophageal cancer hurt?

My father has been having trouble swallowing and some chest discomfort. The doctor mentioned checking for esophageal issues. Does esophageal cancer typically cause pain, or are there other symptoms to watch for?

Oh God, this thought itself is so terrifying, I get so anxious reading about these things online. Honestly, please don't read too many Google articles, they only show the worst cases and make us panic. If you or someone you know is having painful swallowing or chest discomfort, it is best to get it checked by a specialist directly to clear the mind.

I once thought my bad acidity was some dangerous throat issue and almost wrote my will! But jokes apart, severe pain usually happens in very advanced stages. Most of the time it is just bad reflux or a throat infection. Don't start preparing for the worst based on internet symptoms, just see a doctor.

Why are you asking such a serious medical question on an online forum? Nobody here can give you a diagnostic answer, and wrong info will only delay real treatment. If there is persistent difficulty in swallowing, pain behind the breastbone, or unexplained weight loss, go to a gastroenterologist immediately for an endoscopy.

Actually yaar, in the early stages, there is barely any pain, just a weird feeling like food is stuck in your food pipe. But as it grows, it can cause real pain while swallowing and even chest pressure. Don't ignore these signs thinking it's just normal acidity. Better to consult a doc and get an endoscopy done.

When my uncle went through this, the pain wasn't severe initially, but he had a constant ache in his back and chest while eating. As a caregiver, I learned that waiting for the pain to become severe is a big mistake. Please consult an oncologist or a specialist immediately if you notice any swallowing issues.
