Does eczema scar?

My eczema tends to leave behind darker skin even after the rash subsides. I'm worried these marks are permanent. Does eczema scar the skin, or will these marks fade over time?

My grandmother used to say applying homemade sandalwood paste would prevent eczema scars, but I found that trusting my dermatologist's advice was much safer. Eczema itself doesn't usually cause permanent scars, but deep scratching definitely can leave dark marks that take months to fade.

Yes, it can leave dark spots, but they are usually temporary pigmentation marks rather than actual permanent scars.

I went to a reputable hospital for my skin issues, and the consultant there explained that post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation from eczema is very common. You should ask your doctor clearly about safe skin-lightening creams instead of experimenting on your own.

Please don't trust those random internet remedies claiming lemon juice or vinegar will erase eczema marks; they will just burn your sensitive skin. Always verify with a proper skin specialist before putting anything on healing eczema patches.

I scratched my infected eczema patches so badly that I ended up with permanent, pitted scars on my legs. If your skin is bleeding or oozing, please see a doctor immediately to prevent deep tissue damage that leads to lifelong scarring.
