Does eczema cause swelling?

My hands often get really swollen during an eczema flare-up, especially around the joints. It makes them quite stiff and painful. Does eczema typically cause swelling in the affected areas?

Yeah bro, my hands used to swell up and feel super tight when my eczema flared up badly during exams. It's usually from all the scratching and inflammation. Try not to itch it too much or it just gets puffier.

Eczema-induced inflammation can certainly cause the surrounding skin to swell, especially around sensitive areas like the eyes or fingers. Applying a cold compress can help reduce the puffiness temporarily, but a proper prescription cream is needed to treat the root inflammation.

Haan, it actually does. When the skin gets heavily irritated, thoda swelling is normal, na. But if the swelling is too much or warm to touch, it could be an infection. Better to show a doc once.

While mild swelling from scratching is common, sudden or severe swelling can be a sign of a serious skin infection like cellulitis. For safety, please get it checked by a medical professional immediately rather than trying to treat it at home.

I was just reading about atopic dermatitis and actually, the inflammatory response releases histamines which make the blood vessels leak slightly, causing local swelling. It's super interesting but must be really uncomfortable. Hope you find some relief!
