Does dry socket pain come and go?

I had a tooth extraction a few days ago and I'm worried about dry socket. I've been feeling pain, but it's not constant; it comes and goes. Is it normal for dry socket pain to be intermittent, or should it be a constant ache?

According to my health tracker, my sleep quality dropped to zero when I had tooth extraction issues because dry socket pain is usually a constant, throbbing ache that doesn't really come and go. It actually tends to stay intense and can even radiate up to your ear. Keep logging your symptoms and call your dentist if the pain spike is constant.

I had my wisdom tooth removed three days ago and the pain is starting to feel very sharp now. Is it normal for dry socket pain to feel worse when drinking water? I am a bit scared to call my doctor again so soon.

If you have a dry socket, the pain is usually continuous and made worse by food particles getting stuck there. Try to avoid any spicy or solid vegetarian food right now, and stick to simple, lukewarm moong dal khichdi. Definitely check with your dentist for a proper dressing.

My grandmother told me to keep a clove near the tooth, but for dry socket, home remedies won't cut it. The pain is usually quite steady and severe, not something that comes and goes easily. Please visit your dentist, they can flush the socket and give you immediate relief.

Actually, my dentist explained that dry socket pain is a continuous, intense throbbing because the bone and nerves are completely exposed to air. It doesn't typically come and go; if it does, it might just be normal healing pain or a reaction to cold water. If it is a real dry socket, you will need a medicated dressing from the clinic.

I totally get it, dental pain can be absolutely unbearable and makes you feel so restless. From what I remember, dry socket pain is a severe, non-stop ache that makes it hard to even talk. Please don't suffer through this, get in touch with your dentist as soon as possible.

I was just reading about this on a dental forum because my friend is going for an extraction next week. Most people there said that dry socket pain is constant and severe, rather than coming and going. It is best to have the dentist check if the clot has actually dislodged.
