Does drinking iced tea give you kidney stones?

My cousin recently suffered from kidney stones and his doctor advised him to cut down on aerated drinks and iced tea. I drink iced tea almost daily, so now I'm a bit concerned. Can regular consumption actually cause kidney stones?

Oh god, I actually read about this on some blog and got so stressed because I drink iced tea almost every day. Honestly, black tea has oxalates which can apparently cause stones if you drink crazy amounts, but normal drinking should be fine. Still, maybe don't drink like three glasses a day just to be safe na?

My health tracker app actually has an ingredient logging feature and shows that black tea is high in oxalates, which can bind with calcium. If you already have a history of stones, it's better to log your water intake properly and keep it above 3 liters daily to balance it out.

Yaar, if everything we love gave us kidney stones, I’d be a walking quarry by now. I survive on iced tea and cold coffee just to keep my eyes open at work. Just keep chugging water alongside it and hope for the best, honestly.

It’s all about the concentration, guys. Commercial iced tea bottle brands have crazy amounts of sugar and preservatives which are bad anyway, not just for stones. Switch to home-brewed green or black iced tea with less sugar and you will be absolutely fine.

Yes, too much iced tea can definitely increase the risk because of the high oxalate content. Just make sure you are drinking double the amount of normal water to flush your system.

I used to be obsessed with peach iced tea during my college days and had the same worry. My doctor told me moderation is key, and squeezing some fresh lemon juice in it actually helps because citrate prevents stone formation. So don't worry too much, just don't overdo it!

With my PCOS, I have to be super careful about what I drink, and I did ask my nutritionist about iced tea once. She told me that while it has oxalates, having it occasionally is okay, but we should always get a proper urine test done if we feel any lower back pain just to check how our kidneys are doing.
