Does drinking iced tea cause kidney stones?

Loving iced tea, especially in summer, I drink it quite often. My uncle recently warned me that excessive iced tea can lead to kidney stones. Is there any scientific basis for this?

Black tea is high in oxalates, which can indeed contribute to calcium oxalate kidney stones if you drink it in large amounts and don't hydrate enough. Try to limit iced tea to an occasional treat and drink lots of plain water.

I understand how scary it is when you read about everyday drinks causing painful stones, it makes you feel like you can't enjoy anything. But please don't panic. An occasional glass of iced tea won't hurt, just keep your overall hydration high.

If iced tea gave everyone kidney stones, college students would be living in hospitals! It has oxalates, yes, but unless you are drinking it like water every single day, you are perfectly fine. Enjoy your cold brew!

Bhaiya, yeh bahaar ki baraf waali chai mein bahut chemical aur chini hoti hai. Isse badhiya hai ki aap ghar ki bani dahi ki thandi lassi ya shikanji pijiye, pet bhi thanda rahega aur bimari bhi nahi hogi.

Tea does have oxalates, haan. So drinking too much bottled iced tea can definitely increase the risk of stones if you are prone to them, na? Better to limit it and stick to normal water to stay safe.

No need to worry too much. If you like iced tea, just make it at home with less tea leaves and add a squeeze of fresh lemon. The citrate in lemon actually helps prevent stone formation, so it balances out.
