Does diazepam make you sleep?

My doctor gave me diazepam for my severe insomnia. I'm finding that it really helps me sleep. Is it normal for diazepam to make you sleep, or is it meant for other things primarily? I just want to understand its main purpose.

Yes, from what I've researched, it is a sedative that calms the central nervous system, so sleepiness is one of its primary effects. It's usually prescribed for severe anxiety or muscle spasms to help the body rest.

It definitely makes you very drowsy, which can feel a bit scary if you aren't used to it. Just make sure you are already in bed when you take it and don't plan to do any heavy work afterwards.

Yes, it puts you to sleep very quickly, but remember it is a strong prescription drug. Never take it without a doctor's guidance, and try to take it at the exact same time every night for best results.

My sleep tracker showed a massive increase in deep sleep when I was prescribed a similar relaxant. It really knocks you out, but it can also make you feel slightly groggy the next morning.

It really does help you sleep by calming your mind down. Just make sure you get a full 7-8 hours of rest after taking it, otherwise you might feel super tired and sleepy throughout the next day.
