Does diabetes make you crave sugar?

Ever since I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, I find myself craving sugary foods more than ever. It's becoming really hard to control my diet. Does diabetes somehow increase your sugar cravings?

Yes, when your cells do not get glucose, the body craves sweets to get quick energy. Stay positive, keep your mind calm with meditation, and gently guide your dietary choices toward healthier options.

Of course it does. Because of insulin resistance, your cells are literally starving for energy, so your brain screams for sugar. Don't give in to it; eat some fiber or salad instead and go get your HbA1c checked.

I used to ignore my crazy mid-afternoon sweet cravings, thinking I just had a sweet tooth, till I ended up in the clinic with a sugar level of 320. If you are suddenly craving sweets all the time, please go get your blood tested immediately.

Oh, the cravings can be so hard to control! I used to drink cinnamon water in the morning, which really helped reduce my sweet tooth. But remember to keep your actual medical treatments going along with these kitchen tips.

I was researching this because my dad has been eating sweets secretly. It turns out that since the body can't absorb sugar properly in diabetes, it thinks it has no fuel, which triggers heavy cravings. It is actually a physical signal, not just lack of willpower.

Yes, it is a very common biological response. When insulin isn't working right, glucose stays in your blood instead of reaching your cells, leaving you feeling low on energy and craving sugar. Managing your medications properly will help reduce these cravings.

I used to have intense sugar cravings every evening before my diagnosis. Once my doctor put me on the right medication and my glucose stabilized, those urgent cravings completely disappeared. It is definitely a medical symptom.
